Irani Cup
The Irani Cup is a first-class cricket tournament that is played between the Ranji Trophy Champions and the cricket team from the rest of India every year. The first match of the Irani Cup was played in 1969 and now the 59th edition took place in March 2023. The upcoming, 60th edition of the Irani cup is scheduled to take place between October 1st until October 5th 2023, the rest of India is the current champion of the Irani Cup.
Introduction
The Mastercard Irani Trophy, often known as the Irani Trophy or Irani Cup, is a first-class cricket competition run by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Current Season
The 2023-24 Irani Cup 60th edition will take place at the beginning of October 2023 as was announced by the BCCI in April 2023. It will play as a one-off match between the 2022-23 Ranji trophy against Rest of India team, who are the defending champions.
Due to sponsorship, the 59th edition of the Irani Cup, an Indian first-class cricket competition, is also known as the MasterCard Irani Trophy. A one-off cricket match between Madhya Pradesh, champions of the 2021–22 Ranji Trophy, and a team from the rest of India is slated to take place from March 1–5, 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced in March 2020 that the 2019–20 Irani Cup and all domestic cricket in India had been halted owing to the coronavirus. The 2019–20 Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra competed against a Rest of India side in the rescheduled game, which took place from October 1–5. The first date for this specific game was set for 2020, the year Saurashtra won the Ranji Trophy. The COVID-19 epidemic, unfortunately, completely wrecked the program. Previous Seasons
The inaugural match between the Ranji Trophy winners and the Rest of India took place in 1959–1960. The trophy was named in honor of Rafael Irani, a devoted cricket fan and longtime treasurer as well as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
